Benefits of Capoeira Training for Kids

MObility – Coordination – Respect – Musicality

Capoeira for Children

Every Sport has special aspects from which children in particular benefit. In capoeira, however, there is something more. Since music and cultural aspects are added to this sport.

Mobility

Children love movement! The harder, the better! Capoeira training involves practicing completely unfamiliar movements, including flips, jumps or acrobatics. Once one challenge is mastered, the next one is already waiting. The basic movements alone put almost the entire body under tension, which improves mobility immensely.

Coordination

Jumping with the left, kicking with the right, turning and paying attention to arm position… Sounds confusing? At first, children learn relatively simple basic movements, but gradually the movements become more and more complex.

Respect/cooperation

Togetherness and interaction in the group is very important in capoeira, because the children do not practice alone, but with changing partners. In the process, they help and improve each other, they have to coordinate and react to their partner. I particularly observe children who like to teach new movements or give tips to other children.

Musicality

As I said before, capoeira is practiced to music, both in training and in games. The rhythm determines the speed of the movements, so the children have to follow it. In the roda, children play to music, two children play with each other while the others watch, sing and clap their hands.

Playing instruments

Music is not only singing but also the sound of instruments. Learning to play the instruments forms also part of Capoeira and so the children are slowly introduced to it, first with drums and tambourines, later they also get to know the berimbau.
